Community events awarded nearly $40,000 in federal funding

Nearly $40,000 in Canadian Heritage funding is helping area organizations celebrate Canada Day and National Indigenous Peoples Day.

Anthony Rota, Member of Parliament for Nipissing–Timiskaming, announced the funding to support events across the riding.

“The Government of Canada understands the value of equitable projects like these that are an important part of contributing to multiple Indigenous, Francophone, and multicultural groups, all of which strengthen and enrich our social fabric,” says Rota.

Money for Powassan and North Bay will be used for Canada Day celebrations.

Funding for Les Compagnons des Francs Loisirs will be used in North Bay, East Ferris, and Mattawa to promote National Indigenous Peoples Day, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, Multiculturalism Day and Canada Day.

Temagami First Nation and Keepers of the Circle also received funds.

Rota is encouraging residents to take part in these community activities and learn more about the ethnic, linguistic, cultural and artistic diversity that makes Canada an inclusive country.
