Area communities celebrating Canada Day

North Bay has plenty on the go to celebrate Canada Day on Monday.  

The opening ceremony is at noon at the Kiwanis Bandshell, with free live entertainment and a kid’s zone, including an interactive reptile show.  

Both the North Bay Museum and Dionne Quints Home are offering free admission.  

Fireworks are scheduled for 10 pm.  

There’s also a couple of races on July 1.

The annual 5 km Canada Day Road Race starts at 9:30 am at the A.C.T. Shelter. Registration opens an hour earlier.  

In the afternoon, there’s a regatta race on Lake Nipissing (1:15 pm).  

Registration for that event opens at 11:30 am in the Rotary Shelter area.  

Officials are also opening the North Bay Canada Place gathering space along the waterfront.  

It features an accessible pathway, a large maple leaf design in the paving stones, and two flag poles, one of which will permanently display the Nipissing First Nation flag. 

 

In Callander, Fun Fest takes place on Saturday, June 29.  

There’s a pancake breakfast, entertainment, vendors, kids’ activities, a parade along Main Street at 11 am and fireworks at dusk.

South River and Sundridge are also celebrating on June 29.  

Events marking Canada’s birthday in South River include the Lions Club parade at 1 pm.   

There’s also a bbq and beer tent, entertainment, vendors, a pie eating contest and more.

The parade along Main Street in Sundridge starts at 3:30 pm with celebrations taking place at Lion’s Park.  

That includes cake, a bbq, kid’s games, music and more.  

Fireworks wrap up the event at dusk.

Celebrations in Bonfield on July 1 include live entertainment, the Mayor’s BBQ, a duck race, story walk, bicycling decorating contest, farmers market and more.  

Events are taking place at Kaibuskong Park from 11 am to 5 pm.

Canada Day events in West Nipissing are taking place from noon to 4 pm at the Sturgeon River House Museum.   

Officials say a free bus service is running from the recreation centre throughout the day.  

Along with games and entertainment, there’s food and prizes, with fireworks scheduled for sundown, around 9:30 pm.

In Powassan, Canada Day activities are lined up for 6-9 pm at South Himsworth Park.   

They include a bbq, kid’s games, bouncy castle and fireworks at dusk.  

 

East Ferris has a few contests underway, including the Great Canadian Dessert Debate, between butter tarts and Nanaimo bars. 

For kids, there’s a colouring/maple leaf design contest.   

There are also free tie-dye supply kits from the East Ferris Public Library, while supplies last.
