Opening North Bay Canada Place and Heritage Railway & Carousel Company operating daily

The city and various partners are officially opening the North Bay Canada Place gathering space on Monday morning at the waterfront.

It’s located across from the pedestrian underpass.

Along with a space to gather, there’s an accessible pathway, large maple leaf design integrated into the paving stones and two flag poles.

One will permanently display the Nipissing First Nation flag.

Still at the waterfront, the mini-train and carousels started operating seven days a week on Monday, June 24.

The rides are open from 10 am to dusk.

This is the 30th anniversary season for the Heritage Railway and Carousel Company with a celebration planned for Aug. 3.

Officials will be honouring the attraction’s two millionth rider that day, offering retro 1994 pricing of $1 per ride all day and more.

“There is an open invitation for the volunteer carvers, artists, donors and sponsors who were instrumental in the initiatives we currently enjoy at this family friendly attraction to come out and be a part of the celebration,” says Ralph Celentano, one of 21 volunteer shift captains and 30th anniversary chair.  “Weekly, we celebrate those visiting riders who sign our guest book from cities across the province and around the world. This upcoming August day is to celebrate the founding volunteers and our community partners who engaged in the vision of the mini-train and our two carousels.”

The mini-train opened July 29, 1994, with the first, larger carousel opening on Canada Day in 2002.

The second, smaller carousel opened on July 1, 2005.
