History was made amid the flurries on Sunday afternoon at the Nipissing University turf field.
The Lakers women’s soccer team scored a 2-1 win over York in their semifinal matchup, to earn a berth in the OUA final and the USports National Championship.
Bella Nolte scored the Lakers’ first goal, in the 42nd minute of the first half.
In the second half, the Lions tied the game just three minutes in before Cassidy Brooks chipped a bouncing ball into the top of the net late in the game, to give Nipissing the 2-1 lead.
The Lakers travel to Ottawa to play the Gee-Gees in the OUA final on Saturday (Nov. 2) before heading to the USports National Championship in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
In OUA women’s hockey, Nipissing won 2-0 over Windsor and 7-1 over Western on the weekend.
The Nipissing men lost twice to Western (5-3 and 3-1).

Both Lakers basketball teams split their weekend games, with losses to Toronto Metropolitan and wins over the Toronto Varsity Blues.
The Nipissing men bounced Toronto 73-67 while on the women’s side, the Lakers won 73-60.
Both Nipissing volleyball teams lost twice each to Queen’s in Kingston.
In OCAA men’s volleyball, Canadore is 3-0 on the season after wins over Seneca (3-0) and Loyalist (3-2) on the weekend.
On the women’s side, the Panthers split their weekend games with a loss to Seneca (3-2) and a win over Loyalist (3-2).
In men’s basketball, Canadore lost both of its games on the road to Lambton and St. Clair.
Back to hockey, in the NOJHL, the Powassan Voodoos won twice on the weekend, 3-2 over French River and 7-3 in Kirkland Lake.
