Local emergency services raised over $5,100 this year for the CIBC Run for the Cure.

The North Bay Police Services, Fire and Emergency Services, MTO’s Transportation Safety Division and the Nipissing District Paramedic Services take part in a fundraising challenge every year – with the leadership of the services who don’t raise the most having to paint their nails pink.

The local police service came first this year, with over $2,600 raised.

“I’m very proud of our police team for making it to the top spot and equally pleased that, as a group of emergency services, we collectively have raised so much money to support the fight against breast cancer,” says Chief Daryl Longworth.

He adds the competition is a testament to what the services can accomplish when they work together.

Melanie Gainforth, Volunteer Director for North Bay CIBC Run for the Cure is also thanking everyone involved.

“Their donations will help fund breast cancer research, provide supports to those affected, and shape health policies to better prevent breast cancer,” she says. “Breast cancer is a disease that will touch everyone. One-in-eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. While our ability to treat breast cancer has improved, we still have a long way to go. I’m very glad we can count on our area emergency services to take part in this fun event every year for this important cause.”

Over $22,750 has been raised by emergency services in the four years this competition has taken place.
