Over $1.7 million in federal funding is supporting ten strategic outdoor tourism initiatives in Northern Ontario.
Two are in our area.
The Laurentian Ski Hill Snowboarding Club receives over $220,000 from FedNor to support plans to transform the hill into an all-season destination.
“We are grateful that FedNor and the Government of Canada are stepping up to help us transform our facilities into an all-season tourism hub,” says Brad Gavan, Board President, Laurentian Ski Hill Snowboarding Club. “[The] Club is excited to provide more activities, support healthy lifestyles encouraging individuals to engage in sport and recreational activities.”
The project includes service upgrades, signage, and the creation of a space to host events.
Officials say potential future events include adventure competitions, obstacle races, running, mountain biking, and hiking.
Also receiving funding is Discovery Routes Trail Organization.
They receive over $130,000 to highlight and attract visitors to the all-season trails on North Bay’s Escarpment.
Ottawa says these investments will foster continued economic growth by supporting the expansion of the tourism industry in the region.
