Conservation Authority issues flood watch for the North Bay-Mattawa watershed

A flood watch has been issued for the North Bay-Mattawa watershed.

That from the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) which also says a water safety statement has been issued for the Lake Nipissing Shoreline in North Bay and Callander and the lower reaches of the Mattawa River in Mattawa.

Officials say water levels on local creeks and rivers, including Chippewa Creek, La Vase River, and Wasi River have increased after the weekend rain and snowmelt.

“Recent weather conditions have triggered significant snowmelt and increases in local water levels,” says Angela Mills, NBMCA Flood Duty Officer. “With warm temperatures and rain over the next few days, water levels and flows are expected to increase further. Localized flooding is possible in low-lying and poorly drained areas.”
