We have reached out to local candidates and asked them a series of questions that are on the mind of voters across the riding. Topics range from what they’re hearing at the door, positions on the trade war, cost of living pressures and more.

Here’s what they had to say, in their own words.

John Janssen
People’s Party of Canada

Tell us about yourself

John is motivated to run for office by his deep concern for the future of Canada, his commitment to his family, and his strong faith. Disillusioned by the Conservatives, Liberals and NDP, all of whom share the same globalist vision, John is a proud supporter of the People’s Party of Canada and their commitment to defending the values of freedom, personal responsibility, respect and fairness.

An area resident for more than 20 years, John and his wife Beth along with their two children live on an off-grid hobby farm in Chisholm Township. John is the founder of ITSN, an information technology company supplying IT services across Ontario. In his free time John enjoys crown land camping with his family, and is an avid enthusiast of hunting, fishing and sport shooting.

What are you hearing when door-knocking?

People are tired of the corruption of the Liberal party, and also view the CPC & Liberal as the unipart as their platforms are so similar.

What would you do about cost of living pressures in your riding?

Eliminate Corporate Welfare
Eliminate all corporate subsidies and other inefficient government interventions (bailouts of failing companies, regional development grants, conditional loans and loan guarantees with an implicit subsidy, tax credits, etc.) that unfairly support some companies or business sectors. This will generate savings of tens of billions of dollars every year.

Abolish Capital Gains Tax
Over the course of one mandate, gradually abolish the personal capital gains tax by decreasing the inclusion rate from the current 50% down to 0%.

Promote Canadian Employment
End the Trudeau government’s policy of mass immigration as a solution to manpower shortages (see policy on immigration), and focus instead on encouraging businesses to invest and improve their productivity.

Why should someone vote for you?

The PPC is the only party that stands for freedom and has a comprehensive platform to revitalize Canada.

What is your position on tariffs and the trade war?

1. Double down on efforts to control our border, crack down on fentanyl dealers, deport all illegals, and impose a complete moratorium on immigration, to answer Trump’s immediate concerns about Canada.

2. Wait and see to what extent Trump is willing to keep tariffs in place despite the harm it does to the US economy. Despite his pretenses that Americans don’t need our stuff, the reality is that on the contrary they have few other options for crucial resources like oil, lumber, uranium and other minerals, etc. He will stop acting like a bully when he sees that he can get more results by sitting down and negotiating.

3. To reduce our dependence on the US market, immediately implement an ambitious plan to tear down interprovincial trade barriers and help our impacted exporting industries find alternative markets in other countries.

What are potential solutions to housing affordability and homelessness?

A People’s Party government will:
Impose a moratorium on new permanent residents for as many years as necessary until the housing crisis has cooled down, the negative economic impact of mass immigration has been neutralized, and the process of social and cultural disintegration due to mass immigration has been reversed; thereafter, substantially lower the number of permanent residents Canada accepts every year to between 100,000 and 150,000, depending on economic and other circumstances (see policy on Immigration).

Respect Local Planning
Respect local governments’ responsibilities in housing. They should not be subjected to federal financial pressure to “densify” old neighbourhoods of detached homes in order to accommodate mass immigration policies.
