City police report a dog in distress was located and rescued on Wednesday from under the Kings Landing Dock.
They were called by a person who could hear the dog barking and whining from under the dock.
Officers located the animal but couldn’t get to it because of the ice conditions.
Police say city fire crews were able to rescue the dog, with the use of a long pole attached to a dog collaring pole.
They say the dog, which appeared to be in good health, was then brought to the humane society by an officer.
“Firefighters used our ice-water rescue equipment to safely effect the rescue,” says Deputy Fire Chief Greg Saunders. “Clearly, the dog had been trapped under the dock for a significant period of time.”
He says a social media post shows that the dog had been missing for six days.
“My understanding is that the owner was able to get their dog back from the humane society [Wednesday],” says Saunders.
