Sundridge youth recognized by the province for volunteerism

Ontario is honouring 11 young people with the 2023 Ontario Medal for Young Volunteers, including one from Sundridge.

The province says the medal is its highest honour for youth aged 15 to 24, recognizing their outstanding contributions to their communities and the province through volunteerism.

“Megan Lee’s ability to connect with people from all walks of life as well as her talent for inspiring others to get involved in community service, has enabled her to contribute in many ways to health care, schools, and youth sports,” states a release.  “In 2019, to honour her late figure skating coach, she founded the Judy Coalter Memorial Scholarship Fund, enabling full-season registration for deserving skaters.”

Officials say she shared her skills with the North Bay Regional Health Centre, the West Parry Sound Health Centre, and helped coach at the South River Figure Skating Club.

Currently completing her third year of the Honours Health Sciences program at McMaster University, Lee continues her contributions at McMaster’s Children’s Hospital and McMaster Students Union.
