Compressed Natural Gas bus pilot projecting being run by Ontario Northland

Ontario Northland made Canadian history on Thursday when they announced they will have a bus that operates on Compressed Natural Gas. This is the first CNG bus of its kind in the country. The pilot project is in partnership with Motor Coach Industries, Union Gas, Envoy Energy, WSP and Change Energy.

Ontario Northland President and CEO Corina Moore says this is a pilot project and that they are looking for public input because they’re doing a feasibility study. Moore says they will evaluate what the impacts of using the vehicle are when it operates in different weather, like minus 50 in Hearst or warm conditions in Toronto. She says this green initiative is just one way in which Ontario Northland is exploring innovative new equipment and technologies.

The CNG Motor Coach will operate as an additional coach and provide overflow support to scheduled motor coach service. The feasibility of adopting this technology in the future will be determined by customer feedback, maintenance staff and driver reviews.
