Canada Child Benefit is helping families in Nipissing–Timiskaming one year in: Rota

The Canada Child Benefit was launched a year ago to help families with the cost of raising children, and Nipissing-Temiskaming MP Anthony Rota says children in the area have benefitted. Rota says local families on average received $580 last May, and more than 14,700 children were helped from the new and improved initiative.

On a provincial level, families in Ontario received over $742,190,000 last May from the CCB, and in Nipissing-Temiskaming the total was $4,923,000. The CCB is helping lift approximately 300,000 children out of poverty, which represents a reduction of about 40% in child poverty in Canada. Families with a net income under $30,000 receive the maximum benefit of $6,400 per child under the age of six, and $5,400 per child between the ages of 6 to 17.

Rota says children are the most precious resource, yet too many Canadian families worry about how to make ends meet. He says the CCB has provided parents with more flexibility to put money towards important things they need.
