Trout Creek getting new long-term care home

The community of Trout Creek will be getting a new 96-bed long-term care home.

It comes as part of the Ontario government’s $933 million investment toward 80 long-term care home projects.

The new facility will replace the Lady Isabelle Retirement Residence that closed its doors in 2017.

“Families in Nipissing have been eagerly awaiting this announcement, replacing the 66-bed facility that was closed a number of years ago,” said Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing. “Today’s announcement will help ensure we have safe, modern spaces ready for those who will need long-term care.”

Paul Heinrich, CEO of the North Bay Regional Health Centre, says the district lost double the amount of long-term care bed capacity than the provincial average due to the ending ward-room care for the pandemic.

“Today’s announcement will dramatically improve acute care patient flow and ensure patients waiting in hospital for admission to LTC can access the right care in the right place,” Heinrich said.

It is not yet known how much of the $933 million pool will go toward the Trout Creek residence as final costs still have to be tallied.

Italo Ferrari, General Manager of Real Estate Developments says they are hoping to get the project started “as soon as possible.”
