Interest in travelling beginning to pick up

Despite Ontario entering the third wave of the COVID-19, some people are already planning their post-pandemic getaway.

Chris Mayne, owner of Mayne Travel Services, says business has picked up in the last month or so after a quiet winter.

“It’s interesting to see that some people are definitely thinking and booking travel again,” Mayne said. “I think there is a real pent-up demand.”

Since the region came out of lockdown nearly three weeks ago, Mayne says people have been planning some significant excursions for the late fall of this year into the winter of 2022.

“Surprisingly, some of the trips I’ve seen people booking are larger, once-in-a-lifetime type trips,” he explained. “I think for a lot of people it’s having that bucket list item to look forward to.”

Mayne says he has had to dip into some savings that were depleted during the past year, adding funding support from the provincial and federal governments has been “crucial”.

As the province and country continue vaccine rollouts, Mayne says it’s hard not to get excited for what the future holds.

“It encourages us to realize that hopefully, we’ve made it through the past year,” he said. “Overall, the situation, at this point, seems to be improving.”
