Federal funding for North Bay Pride

Over $41,000 in federal funding is helping North Bay Pride with the operational costs of this year’s festival.

Anthony Rota, Member of Parliament for Nipissing-Timiskaming, announced the funding through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program (BCAH).

“These festivals and events bring people together to celebrate our local arts and culture and heritage and it is important to continue to support the 2SLGBTQ+ community here in Nipissing-Timiskaming,” says Rota.

“These are difficult times for many folks, and the need for pride across Canada has never been greater as many of us feel isolated and alone during COVID,” says Jason Maclennan, Communications Director for North Bay Pride. “This grant allows North Bay Pride to continue to support a historically vulnerable population, advocating for change by cultivating conversations highlighting challenges still faced by 2SLGBTQ+ people who unquestionably experience long-term stress related to their orientation or identity, while also celebrating their important cultural contributions historically, and still today.”

June is Pride Month in Canada.

North Bay Pride explained on social media earlier this week they’re holding their events in September in hopes of in-person attendance being possible.
