Campaign launched to assist city man

North Bay’s Dale Amyotte was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) about nine years ago.

But he says the last year has been the worst.

“I have a hard time walking up the stairs right now,” he says.  “We’re trying to get some funds so we can put a lift in for my electric wheelchair and remodel the bathroom.”

He says they’re looking to replace the tub with a shower that will make it easier for him to get in.

A Go Fund Me Campaign has been launched with a goal of $65,000.

As of mid-afternoon Thursday, just over $4,500 had been raised.

Amyotte says MS impacts the nervous system.

“My legs are all numb, my balance is really bad, I have to walk with a walker in the house or hold on to the counter.  My one eye is blurry and I have the shakes, really bad tremors” he says. “There’s no cure at the moment.”

Amyotte says the renovations on his and his parents limited income would be financially impossible.

“My parents are getting up in age and when I fall they have to help me up, so we’re trying to take the pressure off of them too,” he says.

Amyotte writes on the Go Fund Me campaign page that they’re working with non-profit groups and people to help offset costs.

He also says they’ve reached out to the various levels of government for assistance, but notes it is a slow process.
