National honours for North Bay’s Police Chief

North Bay Police Chief Scott Tod has been awarded the 2021 Recognition Award by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP).

The CACP says the winner is considered to be ‘a leader among leaders’ and exemplifies the association’s values.

“It’s a humbling experience in the fact that I’m being recognized as one of the few leaders in Canada this year who has supported the CACP in their efforts to improve public safety and policing outcomes in our communities,” says Chief Tod. “To have the president give this award to me has been a highlight of my career.”

In a statement, the CACP says Chief Tod earned the award as a result of his leadership of the Electronic Crime Committee and the invaluable advice and insight he brings to help law enforcement agencies across Canada keep up with the ever-changing fast pace of technology and evolving cybercrime threats.

Tod says one of the difficulties with electronic or cybercrime is that agencies have different terminology for the same types of crimes or criminal events.

He says one of the committee’s successes, internationally, has been developing the Common Cyber Taxonomy.

“What the Common Cyber Taxonomy is that we have a number of police services across Canada and around the world, including the United States and Europe that will now be sharing similar language in regards to technology crimes that occur in our community so that we can better analyze and plan for operational intervention,” he says.

“I want to dedicate this award to our team of sworn and civilian members at the North Bay Police Service who keep the people of North Bay and Callander safe each and every day,” says Chief Tod.  “Their hard work and commitment to the job of policing is an inspiration to me.”
