A vacancy is expected to be declared on North Bay City Council next week.
This after the resignation of Councillor Marcus Tignanelli.
“Council is expected to formally declare the seat vacant on Tuesday, September 7th and will then decide between appointing someone to the position or holding a by-election,” says Gord Young, Communications Officer for the City of North Bay.
He says past practice has been to appoint the next person in line according to how they finished in the last municipal election.
“In this case, that would be Ed Valenti,” says Young.
On Friday, Tignanelli announced his resignation is effective immediately.
“I am thrilled to join the City of North Bay’s Economic Development team as its newest innovator, creator and teammate,” He wrote in a statement posted online. “Business retention and expansion, attraction and development of new industries, businesses and services for the purpose of expanding our economy of the community, have been the focus of my time while on Council.”
Tignanelli thanked city staff, his fellow elected officials, Mayor Al McDonald and local residents, both those who did not support him and those who he calls ‘change makers’.
“Lastly to the citizens of our community, thank you to every single one of you who has not supported me along the way, for you are my greatest motivation to continually grow and succeed. ” he wrote. “To those of you who took time to engage in democracy through your messages, calls and public interactions thank you! You are all change makers!”
In early October 2020, George Maroosis filled the council seat left vacant after the passing of the late Mike Anthony.
