The Capitol Centre’s Interim Executive Director says Bluesfest this past weekend was a success.
“Two nights on the Chief Commanda II were virtually sold out, we had a sold out Open Mic night and our concert events, we had almost 200 people at each day of concerts,” says Dan Misturada.
He also says it worked out well that the concerts were moved indoors because of the weather.
“Funny thing is because of the size of the Capitol Centre we were actually able to accommodate more people [inside] than we would have on narrow Main Street,” Misturada says.
He says it felt great to welcome the community back to live performances.
“It was amazing, it’s so good for the soul and just for your mental well-being to be back in a place where there’s live music and people enjoying the artform again,” Misturada says.
He also says they are grateful they were able to pull it off.
“Up until late July we weren’t even sure if restrictions would ease enough for us to do this,” Misturada says. “We’re thrilled that we were the first festival to come out of the pandemic here in North Bay.”
Planning is already underway for next year’s Bluesfest, but there are more events to come this year.
“We’re excited to be announcing our Fall Season line-up on September 22nd,” he says. “We’re going to be coming out with a full line-up of shows that will run from October all the way until Christmas and then we’ll announce further shows later in the fall.”
Misturada says they’ll have everything from dance to comedy to music.
“It’s going to be a great line-up with some unexpected surprises along the way,” he says.
