Mayors still have concerns with Cassellholme redevelopment

The majority of the mayors of the Cassellholme member municipalities don’t see a way forward with the redevelopment until a number of remaining issues are resolved.

They say they want the project to be successful and welcome the recent decision by the province to remove the requirement that their communities guarantee the provincial portion of the proposed project.

“This decision addresses one key concern,” states a release from the mayors.  “Municipalities will now be able to fully focus on other key issues that have been identified since December.”

Past resolutions have detailed the mayor’s concerns.

Among other things, they say that includes the project being developed without a budget — which resulted in the cost rising substantially.

The mayors also say the RFP process for selecting the general contractor was flawed and alternative project models (on greenfield sites) have been proposed and never brought forward to the board of management for further discussion.

“The Mayors have met twice in recent weeks to discuss these concerns,” states the release. “The group also agreed during its latest meeting earlier this week to reiterate an urgent request for a meeting with Ministry of Long-Term Care officials.”
