North Bay Transit boosting bus trip frequency

An increase in ridership is leading to some scheduling changes, including an increase in trip frequency for North Bay Transit.

The city says starting September 6, four routes are going to be running every 30 minutes, Monday to Friday, until 6 pm.

Right now, the College-University, Campus Special, Marshall Park and Ski Club-Pinewood routes run hourly.

“This change will increase service to main corridors, including Algonquin Avenue, McKeown Avenue and Lakeshore Drive,” states a release. “Riders will also be offered additional connection options at transfer locations at Algonquin and Shirreff avenues, the Northgate Shopping Centre, and at Cassells and Olive streets.”

The city says while Saturday service will remain hourly, transit will return to an hourly fixed-route service on Sunday.

Dynamic Dispatching will continue to operate between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. Monday to Friday and on Saturdays from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

North Bay Transit says ridership was dramatically reduced by the COVID-19 pandemic and while it is on the rise and gradually improving, ridership is still below pre-pandemic levels.
