Combatting and preventing racism and hate is the focus of a provincial funding announcement.
Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing announced $40,000 for Endaayaan Awejaa, a non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing all youth and families with safe places to heal and build foundations for their future.
“This funding is assisting us with spreading the message about Truth and Reconciliation through a small documentary,” says Natasha Lariviere, CEO & Founder of Endaayaan Awejaa. “The documentary we are working on is helping us share the life experiences of Indigenous youth and elders and how the effects of colonization have impacted their lives and communities.” Lariviere also says the funding will help them showcase the work people are doing to create change within their communities to strengthen Indigenous roots and culture.
“Solutions to combat racism and hate are needed urgently and require a collaborative community approach,” says Fedeli. “That’s why our government is making this critical investment to empower those on the frontlines fighting against racism and hate in our communities.”
Province-wide, the government is funding 58 projects with $3.2 million in funding from the Anti-Racism Anti-Hate Grant.
