Tourism North Bay is celebrating National Tourism Week and is encouraging residents to do the same.
Officials say the goal of the week is for tourism partners and individuals to come together to champion and promote Canada’s destinations, tourism businesses and employees.
“Tourism in Canada back in 2019, pre-pandemic, generated over $100 billion in revenue for the economy so it’s a very crucial aspect,” says Tanya Bedard, Executive Director of Tourism North Bay. “For us here in North Bay, the pandemic affected us in different ways. The Tourism sector was probably the hardest hit and needs all of our support to get back on track.”
She says residents and visitors can check out a local museum, take a cruise on the Chief Commanda II, visit various scenic venues, take in a show or attend one of several upcoming festivals and events.
“The Powassan Maple Syrup Festival (Apr. 29) will draw thousands of folks into the region,” Bedard says. “We have Quints’ week coming up at the end of May, leading into Armed Forces Day in June and then North Bay Pride Week.”

Other events include July’s Kiwanis Triathlon, the new iteration of Ribfest called Shake the Lake, the provincial cycling championships in August along with the return of the Block Party and then Bluesfest.
“We know northerners are naturally hospitable people, therefore, Tourism North Bay challenges everyone locally to show some love on socials throughout the week by sharing their favourite North Bay landmark, attraction, venue, hotel, or other tourism business,” says Parth Dholakia, Chair of Tourism North Bay.
Officials encourage those sharing posts online to use the hashtags #TourismWeekCanada2023 and #discovernorthbay and to follow @tourismnorthbay on Facebook and Instagram for details on events throughout the year.
National Tourism Week runs through Sunday.
