A new piece of community art has been unveiled by Clean Green Beautiful (CGB) North Bay.
“Made of Corten Steel and designed with a railway resemblance, [the sculpture] pays tribute to the city’s past as a vital transportation hub that brought new markets for lumber and other natural resources,” states a release.
Created by Canadian artist Claude Millette, the sculpture is located at the busker stage, near the pedestrian underpass that leads to the waterfront.
“Public art enhances community identity, brings people together, and adds beauty to our shared spaces. We are so excited to contribute this piece of public sculpture for everyone to enjoy,” says Nathan Jensen, Mitchell Jensen Architects.
The sculpture was funded by CGB sponsors and community stewards.
In the meantime, CGB continues to get ready for the Communities In Bloom competition, with the judges coming to the city later this month.
Among other things, the group says local residents can help by mowing their lawn, removing weeds from around their property and picking up litter in their neighbourhood.
