NNDSB votes to raise fence around Chippewa Secondary

Chippewa Secondary School is going to be fenced in.

At a recent school board meeting, officials voted to erect a fence surrounding the school at a cost of over $600,000.

In a report, the board shared it continues to experience increasing health and safety concerns at the school, and additional security measures have been required. It includes a second security guard, additional cameras and secured entrances.

In September, a 33-year-old was charged after trying to gain access to the school, with police saying he was acting erratically and aggressively. Staff had to prevent him from doing so.

Officials share there is no concrete date on when the fence will be set up, due to the tender being recently awarded.

At the meeting, board trustees re-elected Erika Lougheed as Chair, and Ashley St. Pierre as Vice-Chair.
