We could be getting a closer look at the U.S. Air Force this upcoming Armed Forces Day in the city.
Council has approved the mayor writing a letter inviting several aerial flights and teams to fly over, perform or land at the waterfront.
That includes a fly-by of either an F-16 or F-35 fighter jet.
Councillor Mark King says having the American planes involved is a key highlight.
“I think this motion points to the reality of the City of North Bay recognizing the importance of the American military in this city,” he says. “I certainly think it’s timely to support this.”

Landing on Armed Forces Day would be a Chinook helicopter and the Skyhawks parachute team while the Snowbirds and CF-18 demonstration team would put on performances.
Another fly-by includes a Canadian Hercules aircraft.
Mayor Peter Chirico says the city hosts the largest Armed Forces Day celebration in Canada, drawing thousands of people to the waterfront.
He adds it’s a great way to say thank you to our local military members.
“These are our neighbours, our friends, people that coach our hockey teams, referee basketball, you name it they’ve been doing it for the last 70 years in our community,” he says. “They are the ones that allow us to sleep at night.”
Armed Forces Day is taking place on June 4.
