‘Grow Our Canopy’ program back for a fourth year

City residents will be able to help grow the North Bay’s tree canopy again this year.

‘Grow Our Canopy’ is a partnership between the city and Trees for Nipissing and is aimed at helping residents purchase trees for their yards.

100 trees are being made available at the cost of $20 each to qualified residential property owners who successfully complete an online application form and prepay to reserve a tree.

It’s the fourth year of the program.

“Trees for Nipissing is excited to be partnering with the City of North Bay to deliver this program again this year,” says Peggy Walsh Craig, chair of Trees for Nipissing. “It helps to increase our tree canopy and make the city greener for future generations.”

Officials say a variety of trees will be available.

Taller species include red oak, paper birch and red maple while smaller trees include winterberry and dotted hawthorn.

Property owners can apply starting April 7 with an online form and e-transfer, or at the Trees for Nipissing online store

One tree is available per property.

Successful applicants will receive a delivery date confirmation before May 7, with pick up at Lee Park.
