Traffic enforcement campaign for back to school starts Tuesday

Expect the drive to work next week to take a couple minutes longer, as the kids are heading back to school for another year.

That means school buses will be back on the road, and more students will be walking and biking to and from school.

The North Bay Police Service is beginning a traffic enforcement campaign on Tuesday that will run from 7:00am to 9:00am in the morning, and from 3:00pm to 5:00pm in the afternoon. The campaign will continue every weekday until Friday, September 16th.

The police will be looking to make sure people are stopping for school buses, and yielding the whole roadway at school crossings.

If you don’t stop for a school bus in both directions, when its upper red lights are flashing, you could be looking at a fine of anywhere from $400 to $2,000 plus a loss of six demerit points. You must stop and yield the whole roadway at school crossings and other locations where there is a crossing guard. Police say the fine if you don’t is $150 to $500 and a loss of three demerit points.
