On September 28, OPP officers pulled over a vehicle on Railway Street in Bonfield.
When officers approached the vehicle, the driver had no identification but identified himself verbally. After a check, officers found that there was no driver’s license registered to that person and he was charged with driving a motor vehicle with no licence.
The driver then got out of the vehicle and walked away from the officers.
After looking further into the matter, police found that the driver had given a false name. After tracking the man down while walking with another person, the police arrested a 33-year-old man from Bonfield with:
- Obstruct a Peace Officer
- Fail to Comply with Recognizance (two counts)
- Drive While Under Suspension
The accused is being held pending a bail hearing and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on October 10.
Police became suspicious of the person walking with the accused and began to question him as well. The questions led to officers discovering that the individual had been breaking into cars in the area, had stolen credit cards a small quantity of a controlled substance.
As a result, a 34-year-old man from Bonfield has been charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
The accused is being held pending a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on October 8.
