Trojans have hoop dreams as hosts of OFSAA tournament

Beginning Monday, a total of 35 basketball games will be played over three days, with the final game slated to tip off on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. at West Ferris Secondary and Intermediate School.

The school is hosting the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations Boys ‘A’ Basketball Championships, with action at three gyms across North Bay. The 20-team tournament will be contested at Chippewa, West Ferris and Nipissing University.

“All of the committee’s hard work is coming together and we are anticipating an excellent tournament with some very high calibre basketball,” said convenor Brandon Grube.

Local hotels and restaurants will see an increase in business over the course of the tournament with 19 teams visiting the city.

“The economic benefit to the city is huge. The city and local businesses are grateful for the host schools, the organizing committee and the administration at West Ferris. The event is going to be top-notch,” added Sports Tourism Coordinator Larry Tougas.

NDA senior champions West Ferris is the host school, with the NOSSA spot being filled by White Pines out of Sault Ste Marie.

The Trojans will see their first action at 10:30 on Monday morning on their home court and will take on the number 6 seed Westminster Secondary School from London, Ontario.
