First customers get connected to natural gas through provincial program

A natural gas expansion project in North Bay has connected its first 40 customers.

The project on Northshore and Peninsula Roads intends to have about 400 new customers connected to natural gas in the next 10 years.

“We are thrilled that residents and businesses in this area of North Bay are connected to affordable natural gas to heat their homes and run their businesses,” said MPP Vic Fedeli. “This important work has continued despite the pandemic to enable local customers to save money now and into the future by switching to natural gas.”

The North Bay project is part of the province’s Natural Gas Expansion Program which aims to connect more businesses and homes with natural gas in Ontario.

Phase 2 of the program is scheduled to begin this spring and will include providing natural gas to northern and Indigenous communities.

The province says switching to natural gas can result in up to 43 percent savings annually on a household’s energy bill.
