Virtual Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis History a success

$40,700 and counting.

That’s how much money was raised through North Bay’s 7th annual Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis (CF) History.

“Last year’s event was really successful as well, which set the bar really high coming into this year.  The goal was $39,000 and we surpassed that which we’re super grateful for,” says Macrina Perron, Chapter Volunteer.

On top of Sunday’s walk, a couple of other fundraising activities were held.

“We partnered with the Moose for a unique fundraiser that we had never done before.  The 65 roses campaign raised a lot of money, as well as our annual Zumbathon, which was the second year we’ve done it virtually, we had a couple of businesses really step up this year and support us in unique ways,” she says. “Virtually, people seem to think it takes away but we’re proving otherwise with this community.”

He had issued a challenge that if The Studio’s walk team raised over $10,000, which they surpassed, he would shave his head.

Awards have also been announced:

  • Friend of the Chapter Award – Paul McLean Skater’s North Source for Sports
  • Top Team Fundraising Award – The Studio
  • Volunteer of the Year Award – Mackenzie Daley
  • Top individual Fundraiser Award – Catherine Thompson (Walk Ambassador).

Perron says they’re looking forward to having a hybrid walk next year.

“There’s definitely some merit to doing things virtually and to reach a larger audience so it’s nice to be able to look at what really worked this year and bring that with us to next year.  Hopefully, we’ll be able to meet in person but have that virtual component as well,” she says.
