A local family still has quite a way to go to reach their goal with a GoFundMe campaign.
Dale Amyotte has Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and is raising funds to put a lift in his parents house for his electric wheelchair and to remodel the bathroom.
About $9500 has been raised so far.
The goal is $65,000.
Dale’s mom Janice says they’ve tried to find funding sources to help.
“The one program, it’s three to five years waiting, well, we can’t wait three to five years, we need it now,” she says. “It’s hard for him (Dale) to get up the stairs and now even to go for a shower, he can’t get his legs over the bathtub.”
Amyotte says they’ve written to politicians, service clubs and businesses but haven’t really received a response.
“I understand times are tough, but I surely thought there were funds out there from the government, they seem to have funds for everything else, nothing for disability,” she says.
Amyotte says if all else fails they may end up having to take a second mortgage on the house.
“We’re at the end of our ropes, what do we do?” she asks.
