The latest phase of the Interpretative Gardens around the Dionne Quints Museum has been completed.
The Dionne Quints Heritage Board held a ribbon cutting on Wednesday to thank the province for a $20,000 grant.
Vic Fedeli, Nipissing MPP, says the money from the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries allowed the group to complete the interlocking walkway for the Dionne Quints Museum.
“I think it’s an acknowledgement that this is an important tourism, culture and heritage tool in the City of North Bay. I think it’s important that the ministry fund that and I think it’s important that the ministry offer additional funding for the museums in North Bay,” Fedeli says, pointing out that new funding and capital programs have been announced.
A spotlight and power supply were also installed.
Ed Valenti, Dionne Quints Heritage Board Chair, says the work will continue next spring.
“We’re going to be doing a fundraiser that will buy a shrub for the inner circle. We’ve got our interlocking walkway done, it’s all set, with a handicap ramp so that we can enable some of the older generations to come up and tour the home,” he says.
Volunteers have also planted 100 tulips, donated by the Rotary Club.
Perennials will be added to the inner circle area in the spring along with sponsor plaques and display panels.
